WE INVITE YOU TO EXPLORE THE PRIESTHOOD

THE PRIEST ...

  • Is called by God, from among the community of believers, to serve as the minister of sacraments, to proclaim the Good News, to be the means of the loving Lord's forgiveness and healing.

TO BE A PRIEST ...

  • Is a gift; a particular gift of God, a special calling, not to be presumed or assumed.

  • It is a gift freely offered and given.

  • It is a gift accepted only after serious reflection, prayer, and careful preparation.

WE INVITE YOU TO EXPLORE THE BROTHERHOOD

A BROTHER IS ...

  • A man who has heard Christ’s message to truly be our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers.

  • The religious brother seeks to relate to others like a real brother in a family, helping not for personal gain but for the good of all.

  • The brother strives to witness Christ’s presence as our brother through his efforts to be a living reminder that the Gospel message still is and will always be relevant in today’s world.

WE INVITE YOU TO EXPLORE:

RELIGIOUS?  What does it mean?

  • Aren't all who practice their faith considered "religious?" YES

  • But "religious" also refers to a person who has made the commitment to live as a priest, brother or sister in a religious community, or a religious order.

  • He or she professes vows of poverty, chastity and obedience.

Is It For Me?

  • Those who feel called to religious life sense that their vocation goes beyond service.  For them, their vocation must be lived through the support of a religious community.

  • In community they give witness to their common goals of service, simplicity of life and common prayer as they strive to live the unique spirituality of their particular order, the charism of their founder.

What Do They Do?

  • Religious often serve in ministries particular to their community.  Some orders are dedicated to health care, others to education.  However, there are also communities that take on a variety of ministries, bringing to each the charism of their founder.
