***Feast of the Sacred Heart The act of oblation which is suggested for the feast of Solemnity of the Sacred Heart Jesus is quite brief. In fact it is expressed in a single sentence. It reminds us of the mystery of the death of Jesus which the Father accepts as an act of loving obedience. The Father is not a monster who wants to be placated somehow by the death of Jesus. The Father sends the Son to incarnate the message of God's love for all of us. ***Jesus' Fidelity Jesus' fidelity to the mission He accepted cost Him His life. Jesus accepts paying that price because of His love for us and because of His loving obedience to the Father. In the prayer we ask that we might unite our hearts with the Heart of Jesus. Jesus is the One who is our redeemer and savior. But Jesus invites us to participate in the work of redemption of our sisters and brothers. ***Reconciliation Anything we do to be part of the reconciliation of our brothers and sisters to God and to one another derives its efficacy from being united to the work of Jesus. We pray that as we are united with Jesus in this ministry of reconciliation we might be able to make an offering to God that will be pleasing to God, namely a world changed, a world that is restored to the way God intended us to be. ***That world in described as being
-
“reborn in heart,” ( hearts of stone are softened to being hearts of flesh sensitive to God and to one another)
-
“animated by your spirit” (so that we are able to say: “it is no longer we who live, but Christ lives in us”) and
-
“united in charity” (we are reconnected. The loving bond that unites to God and to one another is restored.)
