After graduating from eighth grade in a Catholic School of Cleveland, Ohio, I went to a minor Seminary of the Priests of the Sacred Heart in Donaldson, Indiana. I hesitated to go to the seminary because of the usual temptations of a teenagers However, after a car hit me while riding a bicycle, I realized that life can be short. Fortunately, I received only slight injuries. After the accident, I decided to dedicate my life to God as a Religious and a Priest.
After graduating from the minor Seminary, I made my first vows in the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart in Ste. Marie, Illinois on September 8, 1959. I then went to college in Kilroe Seminary of the Priests of the Sacred Heart in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. I took my final vows on September 8, 1962 and graduated from College in June of 1963. My superior sent me to Rome, Italy where I studied theology. I was ordained a Priest on December 17, 1966.
During my four years in Europe, I spent a couple of summers in Spain to study Spanish. This was a big help when I was sent to Southern Texas in February of 1968 to work in Mexican/American Ministry. I have been there ever since.
Currently, I'm working in Our Lady of Guadalupe, an all Hispanic parish in Houston, Texas. My parish work with Hispanics has given me a lot of satisfaction. As a Religious, it is necessary to keep a balance between ministry and a good prayer life, both private and community prayer. I have had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother both as a Seminarian and as a Priest. This has been a tremendous help especially in difficult times.
I am only four years from retirement at the age of 70. 1 would like to continue my Hispanic ministry after retirement age, even if only on a part time basis
