Fr. Tom Fix, SCJ

Why did I join the SCJ’s, what led me to the priesthood? I think it was a priority of values. A religious vocation, a priestly vocation - to me it meant going all out for God and His purpose. It meant being close for all but four years of to Him and helping others to know Him and reach Him. It meant his priesthood. As early having the right goals, and giving others the guidance and care that as I can remember, I could make the difference. The priests and sisters in my home parish never had any doubts as were ideal, and my parents instilled in me their basic faith through to what I wanted to do. After visiting several seminaries, reading literature and he said about his getting to know several dynamic SCJS, I decided to enter the seminary.

I am proud of the SCJS; they amaze me with the way they can come through thick and thin. Their professionalism astounds me, and even more, over the years I continue to see members of the community grow spiritually and professionally. Yes, there is tension, sometimes-even harshness toward those with different theological attitudes. Yet, we seem to be able to absorb these things and not let the woundedness render us immobile. Basically it is because the Sacred Heart is a boundless ocean of love, strength and power.

In my teaching, preaching and counseling, I automatically return to God's loving kindness and mercy, His ability to find, even in the least of us, something that attracts Him to us. He helps us believe in one another and in the potential of people, no matter who they are.
