My vocation to religious life began with a desire to love God and serve others who were less fortunate than my self I was encouraged in the pursuit of this religious inclination by my teachers and the pastor of my parish. Our pastor was especially nice and offered to pay half the cost of my seminary training. I felt the urge to do missionary work, so I inquired about the SCJS.

During my studies, I was impressed by the devotion and care the brothers gave to their work. It was their example which persuaded me to pursue religious life as a brother. During these years I was especially influenced by the support of my family and teachers.

As an SCJ, I share in the recreative love of Christ for all people and for A of creation. This love of Christ grows and is challenged by my life as a member of a religious community. I share my love for Christ and desire to grow in His love with others who find Him to be the ultimate value for their lives.

After 32 years as a religious brother I answered the call from God to pursue ordination as a deacon. My service to the Native American children and their families in South Dakota helped me understand that I could give pastoral witness by being ordination to the office of deacon. Through my ordination I serve the needs of the Church both in sacramental ways and in the service of charity.

In my ministry as an SCJ I seek to work with the poor and those who are marginalized by society. It takes openness to God's presence in others to be able to learn from them that God's love is found in every person and in every aspect of this world.

Our lives together, as a religious community, become the full expression of our Christian commitment to Christ. This expression is especially witnessed by the SCJs in our desire to bring about the kingdom of God by being open to God's will lived out in union with Jesus.
